Dear DOA participant,

By now you are wondering what exactly The DOA stands for; well, it's not what you think, but it might be and you'll have to wait a little bit longer to find out. Here are the master boni lists for The DOA. Remember, the rider with the highest point total wins- just add them up; also, there are no photo boni, but you will want a camera for the "tourist" shots.

As an extra treat, and by special request, we've added the KW Route to the mix. It's, how shall we say, different. You'll see.

This is the general format of the lists: ID#; Value; State/Province; Place Name (city or town); street Block Number or cross street; and, Notes/ Availability. The Place Name column is the location town, complete with a link to Yahoo!Maps of that location; the map will be centered on the actual bonus as closely as possible- with a few exceptions, your rally packs will not contain detailed directions other than street addresses where applicable. The rightmost column contains any special notes, hours of availability, etc. Watch your timezones; you'll be dealing with Atlantic, Eastern and Central. For the GPS geeks, Latitute / Longitude will not be provided- you are on your own to figure it out.

You will notice Locations 01-04 are identical for each route. Location 05 is the same place for each route, but has different point values.

The Declare Your Route bonus must be submitted on the form in your rallybooks; no exceptions. These will be collected as you start on Saturday morning.

The Rest Bonus must be started between Saturday noon and Sunday noon. It may be taken at the finish line with the Rallymasters approval. The rest period must be at least 3 hours in length and does not allow the rider to continue to collect bonus points. The actual mechanics will be covered at the riders meeting and will be in your rallybooks.

Regarding Fuel Logs: Riders on motorcycles equipped with fewer than 7 US gallons of fuel will only have to collect receipts to obtain the Fuel Log bonus points; those with 7 or more gallons must complete a fuel log to receive credit for the bonus points.

For the riders on their Iron Butt Association rides, the planned rides are part of Route O. Go [here] for a brief discussion on these rides.

Keep in mind, you may not mix and match boni among the four routes.

Select one and only one of the following Routes to explore during the Rally:

The mileage cap will be 2,020 miles, with 100 penalty points per mile (or every part thereof) for exceeding it. Please plan accordingly.

Reminder, there are penalty points for being tardy, and they will be assessed as follows:

Time Finished

Prior to 15:00:00

15:00:01 to 16:00:00

16:00:01 to 17:00:00

17:00:01 to 18:00:00

18:00:01 & later

Penalty Points per Minute

0

20

202

2,020

20,200

The penalties are not cumulative. E.g. if Rider A returns at 15:30, they will receive 600 penalty points (30min x 20pts/min); if Rider D returns at 16:35, they will get 19,190 penalty points (95 min x 202pts/min); and, if Racer X returns at 17:45, he will receive 333,300 penalty points (165 min x 2,020pts/min). At 18:01, the penalty would be 3,656,200 points.

The generic formula is:
Time Penalty Points = (time finished – 15:00:00) x (penalties points per minute for the hour finished)

None of this is intentionally meant to be tricky or difficult. If you have any questions, please shoot us an email and we'll try to clear it up immediately.

See you soon,
